Getting more inbound links are essential for any blogger:

More inbound links increase your PR, making you more attractive to advertisers.

More links improve your search engine rankings, enabling more traffic from Google.

Good quality links can be a direct source of traffic in themselves.

It is a mistake for a new blogger, just to focus on content and patiently wait for links to come in. It is better to be proactive and see link building as an essential weekly activity.

Methods to Increase Links to your Blog

1.Blog Carnivals

Participate in Blog Carnivals. Make this, at least a weekly task. Search for carnivals related to your themes and if necessary write posts that work for both the carnival and your blog. Look out for new carnivals as well. Show your support by linking to carnivals who show your post.

Festival of frugality at Frugal Baby

2. Ezine Articles

Write articles specifically for Ezines. To avoid duplication, I would not reproduce the article on your own blog. Write only for ezines. Articles that do best are informative and targeted at certain keywords. Even 1 or 2 articles per month can increase the scope and diversity of external links. remember articles at ezines will be copied by many other sites, giving a much greater quantity of links. But, because the article gets copied so much, I don’t advise putting it on your own blog.

3. Articles that stand Out from the Rest

Create content that stands out from the crowd and provides something new and valuable. Put alot of attention into an eye catching title that grabs people’s attention. Make these pillar articles as good as you can; be prepared to spend time and revise them as necessary. If you can do 1 or 2 articles like this per week, you will build up a good collection of articles that define your blog. Don’t forget to link to these high quality articles. This strategy can easily be combined with number 1, blog carnivals.

How to stand out from the crowd

4. Top 10 Tips , 7 Secrets… e.t.c.

This is really an extension of articles that stand out from the crowd. It is top 10 articles and 7 Secrets that are the best type of posts for attracting links.

5. Social Sites.

Getting an article on the home page of Digg, can make the other methods look like filling a swimming pool with a teaspoon. The other methods get links by ones and twos. This method can get a huge quantity of links all at once. However, to get on the home page requires alot of effort. To do well at Digg may require spending time at the site, building up a network of friends. This method can potentially be very powerful. However, make sure you don’t spend more time at Social networking than writing content for your own site.

6. Creating Relationships with other Webmasters.

Try each week to make a contact with a reader, or another webmaster. My creating relationships with other bloggers, you increase the scope for a powerful network of like minded webmasters. Friends will automatically link to you, even without asking. To establish a good contact you can try methods such as:, leaving meaningful comments, link to their site, email them directly.

7. Look out for New Opportunities.

Some of the best link building opportunities come through being connected and reading the top blogs in your niche. For example, taking part in writing contests, such as: Daily Blog Tips and Probloggers’ 31 days to be a better blogger, definitely offer good opportunities to build the number of inbound links.

8. Guest Post.

Offer to write good quality articles for other blogs. In return you get a link in your article. Also, if the blog is related it is an opportunity to get some new RSS readers as well.

Many of these link building strategies rely on writing articles. If you struggle to write enough articles for your blog and other locations consider these writing tips.
