  • More inbound links increase your PR, making you more attractive to advertisers.
  • More links improve your search engine rankings, enabling more traffic from Google.
  • Good quality links can be a direct source of traffic in themselves.

It is a mistake for a new blogger, just to focus on content and patiently wait for links to come in. It is better to be proactive and see link building as an essential weekly activity.

Methods to Increase Links to your Blog

1.Blog Carnivals

Participate in Blog Carnivals. Make this, at least a weekly task. Search for carnivals related to your themes and if necessary write posts that work for both the carnival and your blog. Look out for new carnivals as well. Show your support by linking to carnivals who show your post.

2. Ezine Articles

Write articles specifically for Ezines. To avoid duplication, I would not reproduce the article on your own blog. Write only for ezines. Articles that do best are informative and targeted at certain keywords. Even 1 or 2 articles per month can increase the scope and diversity of external links. remember articles at ezines will be copied by many other sites, giving a much greater quantity of links. But, because the article gets copied so much, I don’t advise putting it on your own blog.

3. Articles that stand Out from the Rest

Create content that stands out from the crowd and provides something new and valuable. Put alot of attention into an eye catching title that grabs people’s attention. Make these pillar articles as good as you can; be prepared to spend time and revise them as necessary. If you can do 1 or 2 articles like this per week, you will build up a good collection of articles that define your blog. Don’t forget to link to these high quality articles. This strategy can easily be combined with number 1, blog carnivals.

To do well at Digg may require spending time at the site, building up a network of friends. This method can potentially be very powerful. I have noted that a lot of entertainment sites are embedding YouTube videos as part of their daily commentary. I think that’s a great way to attract people to your site and build up traffic. If you look at many of the high traffic blogs, a great deal of the ones at the top of the list do that.
